We were led into Life of Riley by the smoker on their sidewalk:

... where fowl was fumed.

This BBQ special ($14.00):

... was a bronze breasted bird with succulent meat. Crisp fries fringed this chompable chick which we subsidized with an order of wings ($9.00):

... that flew in as solid, standard issue flappers.

There isn't a schedule for what the chef decides to smoke, but we hope to return when ribs are caged in the 'que.

The breakfast tacos ($1.50 each):

... at El Guero were topped with scrambled egg and cheese. The chorizo trumped the plain portion as we warmed our bellies with these sating circles.

Agnolotti ($19.00):

... was sweetened with corn and mascarpone and strewn with lobster at A Cena. These maize mits were buttery bundles followed up by halibut ($28.00):

... with asparagus, peas and wound up with fiddleheads on a potato pedestal. The fish was a overcooked for our tastes, but the veal chop ($34.00):

... was top notch. This rare slab was delectable accompanied by arancini, roasted carrots, artichokes and mushrooms.

We'll have to return to this supper station for more of their meaty menu.

They were out of Gruyere, so we had a combo of chevre and mozzarella on our ham and fried egg crepe ($7.00):

... at Perierra Creperie.

This pancake package was satisfying snackage with a runny yolk, melty cheese and meaty middle that was a warming hotcake on our Hawthrone walk.

Booker's bourbon ($14.00) and the Pope House private selection ($12.00):

... whet our whisk-les at Pope House Bourbon Lounge.

The barrel of Four Roses for the house hootch was good but we both liked breaking the spine on the Booker's best.

A smoked pork quesadilla ($6.00):

... provided some alcohol absorption but we saw a neighboring Frito pie that looked interesting for the next time we shoot over to this liquor lounge.

We turned into seniors during the long wait at Juniors, but we eventually (gradu)ate our breakfasts scrambles.

The country scramble ($9.00):

... with mushrooms and sausage and the pesto, spinach and pepper version ($9.00):

... were both bright 'bryo breakage but the varsity letter went to the fruit ($3.00 supplement):

We achieved a degree of fullness and commenced our day as we departed this diminutive diner.

The okonomiyaki ($7.00):

... at Okinoshima food cart was a fine, frisbee of cabbage concealed by a mosaic of meat mingled with mayo and shoyu.

We enjoyed our heady helping at their single seating station where we will have to return to sample more of their casual, Japanese chow.

The oldest restaurant in Portland is lined with dark wood panels and features turkey.

"The special" ($8.95):

... was slices of sourdough bordering turkey, ham and Swiss in a oddly un-special stack. Coleslaw was chopped into a rough pesto-like texture and had a sweetened edge that wasn't our thing.

Breast meat melded with melted Swiss with roasted peppers, tomatoes and onions with a slather of pesto mayo in the "grilled turkey panini" ($9.95):

... which was okay, but nothing that convinced us to return.

Hubers old school nature seems to attract a combo of tourists and traditionalists... or maybe it's just turkey fanciers...

Sautéed mushrooms and melty cheese topped our burger ($7.00):

... from the Burgatroyd cart. We snaggled down this 'shroom and Swiss sandwiched in brioche (which was a decent deck, but not juicy enough to be a rotation ration) before exiting stage left.

The poutine ($4.50):

... at Potato Champion was our Quebec-fast along with their potato-printed coffee. This classic Canadian combo of fries, curds and gravy had a solid saline slug to the beefed-up cheese chunks in this uber tuber tangle.
