Barista may be our baseline for brew in Portland but today we paraded into a Peets:

... for a couple of macchiati:

... which were sad shadows of stainage than that of the more pristine preparations at our forsaken fave.

Cassidy’s:

... happy hour burger ($6.50):

... had a good beef to bun ratio but the patty was more compacted with a finer grind than we prefer, while the tuna melt:

... was a homey hump of albacore covered with Cheddar that went down well with a couple shots of Scotch:

... at this old school establishment.

Hamachi and sake sashimi ($19.00 each):

... at Zilla Sake and Sushi:

... started us off with a folio of fish along with rice with “zilla” sauce ($1.50 each):

... with scallions ‘scorting the mirin-sweetened starchage.

Hotate ($5.00):

... and unagi ($6.00) nigiri:

...a “Tokyo sunset” ($12.00):

... with salmon, avocado, unagi and cukes and a “hana” ($8.00):

... ‘cumbered with crab and salmon capped off our supper at this friendly and funky sushi stop.

The “broadway” omelete ($10.00):

... at Milo’s City Cafe:

... bulged with ham, bacon and sausage mortared with Cheddar in a hefty hatchers mit while the Cheddar and mushroom scramble ($8.50):

... was a flesh-free fast-breaker at this goofy gathering spot:

... with seasonally suited staff.

The “Dali” ($12.00):

... had a fried egg standing in for the melting clock atop a landscape of rice, pintos, radish slaw, roasted chilis, avocado, onions, crema, lime and tender carnitas. We drizzled carrot habanero heat over this dadalicious gathering of grub.

Our next visit will include some of their namesake noshage.

Pappardelle al cinghiale ($8.00):

... at Burrasca was a collection of cart made carbohydrate cords bedecked with boar in a sumptuous swiney sauce that plussed the pleasing Parmesaned pasta. This cravable creation was our kind of chow. We will have to return to this Florentine fountain of fine food soon.

We pulled the trigger on a visit to the new Bunk Bar:

... where we bunkered down with some neat whiskies:

... and deluxe queso ($8.00):

... which was a fun dito flourished with brisket, jalapenos, and guac with crispy, salty, tortilla chips to scoop up the gooey goods.

Smoked chicken wings ($8.00):

... flapped with firey sriracha while their meatball sub ($8.00):

... enqueso’ed beef bearings to ballast our bellies in the latest bunkerteria beneath the Wonder Ballroom where live show and recorded music mingled in a mash up accompaniment to their snacky sustenance.

Scoop was out of waffle cones so we went with standard sugars to support our Trailhead espresso and chocolate ice cream cones ($4.00 each):

These lovely lumps of lickability had a good dose of coffee and cocao without being overly sweet. We will have to check out more of their churnage soon.

The apple handpie
($4.00):

... at Bakeshop:

... was a flaky foldover trapping tantalizingly tartness inside a pomme pillow. This cravable cushion didn’t suffer from a dough-minance and had appley influence in each bite.

A voluptuous vol au vent was nudged with Nutella ($3.00):

... in a shattering smattering of hazelnut hedonism. Which we wiped up from our table at the neighboring Case Study:

... where we capped off our pastries with ‘ccinos.

This symbiotic sales situation of pristine caffeine and carbohy-greats keep us rolling back for the gluteny goods at this butter bunker.

Made to order doughnuts ($1.00 each):

... at Rocking Frog:

... were hot hoops worth a detour. We got these bespoke breads coated in cinnamon sugar, chocolate and plain. All were distinctly delicious and worth looping back for.

The “Dante” breakfast sandwich ($6.50):

... with prosciutto, eggs, chevre, tomato and pesto was less our thing with the ciabatta out weighing the other elements of this lackluster loaf.

We were happy to see Blackheart bagels on offer (since we had repeatedly visited Blackheart when they had sold out). The chewy bagel with cream cheese, lox, capers and tomato ($9.50):

... was worth a reorder.

The converted bungalow that houses Rocking Frog is a swell hippie hangout with board games, books and a fireplace. We will leap back for more of their delectable doughnuts soon.
