The sunny, al fresco breakfast at Los Angeles' Toast:

... was a welcome respite from the Portland precipitation.

Some swell French toast with perfectly runny overeasies, bacon:

... and a nice fruit plate was nice noshage at this westside warren of breakfast.

The “kingbird” ($14.00):

... with bourbon, cassia bark, roasted chicory, maple and sassafras bitters nested nicely as we sat down for dinner at AOC.

An egg-topped tower of brioche, prosciutto, Gruyere and frisee ($14.00):

... was a face-opening sandwich of swell simplicity.

Lamb meatballs ($16.00):

... were fired in the wood burning oven to complete the bleat by melding the meat with tomato and tapenade.

The “vintner’s plate” ($16.00):

... was a wrangling of rillettes, cheese, cured meats, pickles and some roasted grapes with grilled toast. We enjoyed this melange of muscle but would have preferred the grapes unroasted... but we aren’t vintners...

A chocolate torte ($10.00):

... with vanilla ice cream concluded our swell supper at this AOK outpost. It has been seven years since our last visit, but we will be sure to return sooner next time.

Raspberry scones:

... were carbs that ‘companied scrams at Seasons & Regions.

We bypassed the house foil folios for our smuggled smearage (from last night’s Trifecta trip.) The hot wedges were okay, but our contraband Trifecta house churned butter gilded this gluten gloriously.

The “Tilllamook”:

... and “hangtown” scrambles ($9.65 and $10.65):

... were seafood-strewn, cheesy, egg-bound homey heaps but their acquisition did not justify our change of regions.

Salsify chips ($4.00):

... were crisp, BBQ-flavored, finishing line ribbons at Trifecta Tavern.

We rooted through these winning winds along with some top notch tipple.

A vieux carre ($11.00) was a balanced Benedictine ‘bibe with rye, cognac, Punt e Mes and bitters while the “whiz bang” ($11.00) was set off with house made grenadine in an ade of Cocchi Americano, a hint of absinthe and orange bitters.

Trifecta oysters:

... were wood -fired fellers that rocked while a crispy pork shank:

... got a kick from bacon broth lightened with mizuna.

Brussels sprouts ($8.00):

... were cheered on by chorizo and quince butter but we were bummed that the house churned butter ($3.00) order didn’t materialize but they packed it up for us for later.

This latest lap from the Ken of Ken’s Artisan Bakery and Ken’s Artisan Pizza was just the ticket. Their excellent cocktails and swell snackage will have us loop back soon.

A swirl of blueberries sweetened a scone ($2.75):

... at Cafe Velo:

... where Lauretta Jean’s baked goods are deliciously dangled.

We uncharacteristically pie-passed the apple and tart cherry slices and went with this wind up of flakiness with fruit that we happily devoured with our coffee.

It’s Rye-day” was the explanation for the buck off of both our shots:

... at Hawthorne Hideaway.

We Bullieted through our wee whiskies along with a blue cheeseburger:

... with limp fries and an order of “loaded” nachos:

... with bits of chicken, jalapenos, beans and cheese. The food wasn’t the thing for us here, but the Friday fluid shot sale was fine by us.

We beat a path to Heart Roasters’ new downtown chamber:

... where a couple mugs of pulmonary promotion bolstered Bakeshop’s flatbread ($4.00):

... with dried tomatoes and cheese on a buttery backboard as well as a bran muffin with apple:

This circulation station was an arresting place for a Heart break.

We circulated to a Transylvanian cart, Delicios, for a barber pole of kurtoskalac ($5.00):

This hollow helix of “chimney cake” had a soft interior and crackly caramelized crust which we easily wound through:

This artfully made artery was a fun infusion of old-fangled food.

Black velvet paintings lined the walls:

... at Nightlight Lounge:

... where we dizzied ourselves draining a “vertigo” ($7.00) with rye, Averna, ginger and lime lightened with soda and a “spiced fireside fashion’d” ($8.00) with spiced whisky, Cynar, fig and maple syrup.

The fry bread taco ($6.00):

... was a buffalo-bellied, native American and Mexican mashup. This fortifying fold up was followed up by a nicely rare lamb chop ($8.00):

... on a pile of farro with Brussels sprouts and olives, a side of crispy fries ($4.00):

... and a citrus and prawn salad ($10.00):

... with pickled jalapeños, avocado, bits of crisped pork belly, tortilla strips and green goddess dressing.

Nothing fancy or demanding of a detour, just a fun and funky Portland potable portal.

The "Kalamata Mama" ($7.50):

... at the Burger Guild had olives, cukes, feta and spinach in a Greek gob of meat that was good, but the gilding came from their sweet potato fries ($1.00 supplement):

... which had crisp crusts and sweet, tender interiors. These orange sticks stuck out as tater touchdowns.
